How you mentally frame any situation, experience or thought can have a massive impact on its outcome and your enjoyment of it. If you tell yourself you feel tired, you will be more sluggish and slow. Or if you think and feel the task ahead will be incredibly difficult, you can be sure that it will be a struggle all the way. I use this technique of small mental adjustments to break down my long runs; I try to frame them as a series of shorter segments so that the whole run seems easier to manage and helps me to be positive about what is to come. In other words, I try to bring the right zen to the mountain top
