"What you do today can improve all your tomorrows."

Ralph Marston

It is widely believed that farming and agriculture started to be developed and utilised around 12,000 years ago. The arduous and uncertain technique of cultivating nature to provide bountiful supplies of much-needed sustenance developed slowly and began to replace our nomadic existence that was reliant on hunting when the need arose. This shift allowed our ancestors to place roots, grow communities and provide regular food supplies that could be managed through the tougher seasonal conditions or potential shortages. In these early days, farming was not easy or guaranteed to provide success. Knowledge of the plants was limited. Techniques to improve the harvest developed slowly. Climate conditions were unstable. However, these early horticulturists recognised that through hard work and dedication to the process, it was possible to produce bountiful crops of plants. Plants that could be used for food supplies, medicine, goods to trade, clothes to keep warm and a more stable and secure existence. Despite the agricultural process involving more work and therefore less leisure time than the earliest hunting tribes enjoyed, the increased safety and security were a welcome development. Today, we enjoy the benefits of luxury and convenience that our ancestors couldn’t have ever imagined. Has the ‘hard work now = benefits later’ equation changed in this time and with all our knowledge? Not when it comes to self-improvement and our physical and mental health. Whatever harvest you want to reap, the key is to plant the seeds now, nurture them every day and you will be able to enjoy the benefits when it all comes to fruition…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...
