“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

Francis of Assisi

2025 is now underway; the days are ticking by…how are you doing with your resolutions? Despite the idea and practice of New Year’s resolutions being around for some 4,000 years, it’s reported that only 8% of people stick to their targets and see them through. Those are not great odds. The idea and philosophy captured in the quote above is a powerful one. It can help us change and reshape the way we see resolutions. Rather than setting lofty ambitions and dreaming of becoming something that may be out of reach in short order, leading to frustration and roadblocks, why not start by doing just a little something towards your goal? If running more is your aim, but that is proving too hard, then start by walking more and moving more regularly. If a triathlon is your target for 2025, but you’re not a strong swimmer, start by spending time in the water and getting used to it slowly. You get the idea. Build a solid base. Give yourself time. A strong foundation combined with a consistent habit will allow you to work up to your targets. This is a solid approach that can lead to better results and will see more longevity in your practices. Ask yourself how you can do a little more in 2025 to be better and stronger and keep yourself in the 8% that manage to see things through…
