"The world cares very little what you or I know, but it does care a great deal about what you or I do.”

Booker T. Washington

There is a surprising and slightly macabre source for perhaps the most famous version of this quote. First introduced in 1988, the ubiquitous Nike slogan ‘Just Do It’ stems from the final words of a Death Row inmate before he was executed. A pretty morbid origin story for a phrase that is synonymous with getting up, getting active and embracing life. However, some of the greatest and most inspirational figures have come from hardship and struggle and still do. Booker T. Washington, quoted above, was born in a slave hut and lived in dire poverty throughout his childhood. From the age of nine, he worked in coal mines and a salt furnace, but he was determined to get an education and spent his entire life working to help others get educated and strive for better lives themselves. He founded the Tuskegee University, which is still operating and educating people over 143 years later. The hardships and challenges we face come in many forms and are personal to each of us, but the important thing is how you react to them and what you do as a result. These are within your control and can help you on the path to your own, individual greatness…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

I am a little bit loathed to use this expression, but here goes…’Race-cations’ are growing in popularity as people travel further afield to complete their race goals…

Hiking is a vastly underrated form of exercise, and these long trails are the perfect place to get your steps in…

Beginning a running programme can be daunting, follow this outline to help get you up and started on your running journey…

Bill Bradley had a successful business and money in the bank…until he didn’t. What pulled him from the lows of divorce and bankruptcy was taking up a challenge…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…

Lovely, uplifting vibes on this one. The gently pulsating beat and an easy melody make it easy to groove along to. A good option if you want to sit back and get slightly lost in the music or if you need a boost to get up and get it done!
